2010 REGIONAL EMDR BASIC TRAINING
THESE COURSES INCLUDE
PART 1 & 2 PLUS 10 HOURS (REQUIRED) OF CASE CONSULTATION
The Regional EMDR Basic Training Courses offer 40 CE Credits

EMDR Institute Approved Instructors and EMDRIA Approved Instructors
This format is designed for clinicians who are interested in learning to integrate EMDR successfully into their clinical practice by developing and applying their skills over an extended period of time. The seminar consists of lecture, live and videotaped demonstrations, case studies, supervised practice and ongoing case consultation. Participants will have ample opportunity to discuss their cases throughout the course and evaluate how EMDR can be applied. Participants will also practice EMDR in small groups with direct observation and feedback from trainers. The course contains the material necessary to complete the basic EMDR training requirements as set forth by the EMDR International Association. Participants will be required to read the textbook by Francine Shapiro, PhD, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing: Basic Principles, Protocols and Procedures Guilford Press, NY, 2nd Edition, 2001.
Training Highlights Psychobiological overview Specialized history-taking to identify focal patterns and beliefs Desensitization of traumatic memories and present anxieties Installation of positive belief structures Strategies for client resource development and enhancement Specific EMDR Protocols and case formulation Personal use for therapists to process vicarious imagery overflow from traumatized patients Applications to family therapy Apply EMDR to a range of trauma related complaints, including applications to dissociative symptoms, somatoform disorders, phobias, natural disasters, PTSD, survivors of abuse A more proactive version of EMDR for full effective application How to choose and prioritize targets Creative strategies to deal with abbreactive responses Cognitive interweave exercises to resolve "stuck" sessions Practicum experience with other participants Case consultation
Learning Objectives
- Identify 3 components of the EMDR Approach designed to provide effective treatment with clients
- Describe 3 important existing EMDR research studies
- Name 8 phases of EMDR for comprehensive treatment and how to implement the phases with clients
- Identify the parameters treatable with EMDR to safely and effectively implement with clients
- Describe 3 aspects of the AIP Model for effective case conceptualization and treatment planning
- List 6 types of client complaints treatable with EMDR
- Describe the criteria for client selection and how to apply to client cases
- Describe 3 safety measures for effective and safe use of EMDR
- Describe 3 strategies to identify and resolve problem areas in the utilization of EMDR
- Describe protocol for closing down incomplete sessions
- Describe 3 resources to use with difficult or resistant clients
- Describe a treatment plan to choose and prioritize targets appropriate for EMDR treatment
- Describe 2 strategies for dealing with highly emotional responses
- Describe 2 strategies for dealing with dissociative symptoms and phobias
- Describe 2 strategies to effectively treat more complex trauma-related disorders
Integrating EMDR with Other ApproachesEMDR has become invaluable for pschotherapists of all major orientations including psychoanalysis/psychodynamic, cognitive, behavioral, experiential and Gestalt. It is a method which is readily integrated into one's clinical practice and can be learned in a very modest period of time. Qualifications for Attending A clinical background is necessary for the effective application of EMDR. Attendance at the workshop is limited to mental health professionals who have a masters degree or higher in the mental health field and are licensed or certified through a state or national board which authorizes independent practice.
Intern/graduate student requirements
Completion of graduate level coursework at an accredited school and be on a licensing track under state sanctioned supervision by a licensed clinician. Please submit a detailed curriculum vitae/resume and a current supervisor's letter with his/her degree and license number.
