BOOK DESCRIPTION: This book is the first for the utilization of EMDR with war and terrorism survivors. Readers will learn about the application of EMDR with clients suffering from trauma reactions to war and terrorism as well as basic principles of relief work. The EMDR method is reviewed and is built on to prepare the reader for working with war and terrorism clients, including the nature of war and terrorism trauma, the experience of EMDR from both a client and a therapist perspective, particular issues and opportunities when the eight-phase EMDR treatment protocol is used with these clients, the use of EMDR in a crisis intervention environment, working with children, and special issues including grief, guilt, and anger. Working cross culturally and issues that can arise in relief work for mass trauma situations are both addressed, as is research.

OBJECTIVES:

ABSTRACT: This book course is designed for all levels of mental health practitioners to help them learn about the EMDR methodology as used with war and terrorism survivors, and an opportunity for EMDR trained clinicians to learn of issues and procedures when working with such clients while earning 10 CE credits.

AUTHORS:  Steve Silver, PhD, is a psychologist who served as a Senior Trainer for the EMDR Institute and was the first Programs Chair for the EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Programs.  A veteran of both the Marine Corps and the Army, he has worked with combat veterans and their families since 1972, and for 26 years was the director of an inpatient PTSD program for combat veterans and has over 50 publications to his credit.  He is the recipient of the Elizabeth Snyker Memorial Award, presented by EMDR HAP, the Ronald A. Martinez Memorial Award awarded by the EMDR Institute, and the Outstanding and Sustained Service Award awarded by the EMDR International Association.  Currently, he is the primary EMDR consultant to the US Army Empirically Validated Trauma Treatment Training Program where he has provided consultation to over 400 clinicians who work with military clients and their families.

Susan Rogers, PhD, has treated war and trauma survivors since 1981 and has provided training in EMDR in the United States, Northern Ireland, Poland, Bangladesh, Russia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.  She worked with the American Red Cross in response to the 1995 Mississippi floods and tornadoes.  She was a staff psychologist for the Coatesville VA Medical Center for over 25 years and an adjunct faculty member for Penn State University and Immaculata College. Dr Rogers is a member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of EMDR Practice and Research.

TESTING MEASURE: 80 question multiple-choice test. 80% is a passing score.

Tests are scored within 5 business days of receipt of answer sheet and signed Course Verification and Evaluation Forms. Results, including a CE certificate of completion, will be sent within 3 business days. Upon request, scores and certificates will be faxed.
