Course Description

Participants will develop an understanding of how transgenerational transmission of trauma and resources (TTTR) aligns with EMDR Therapy.

They will follow how TTTR principles dovetail with the phases of the Standard Protocol.

TTTR expands the AIP model beyond individual history, thus amplifying case conceptualization, by including dysfunctional information from previous generations as relevant for current mental health.

During this workshop, a series of protocols/procedures will be explained in detail, with participants having the option to join some of the practical interventions, each person according to their rhythm.

Video footage will also illustrate some of the interventions.

Learning Objectives

  • List key indicators of transgenerational trauma transmission in clinical presentations (e.g., repetition patterns, silences, unresolved grief).
  • Describe the TTTR-informed expansion of the AIP model and its implications for EMDR case conceptualization.
  • Explain how explicit and implicit memories contribute to the transmission of trauma and resources across generations.
  • Discuss common clinical scenarios in which transgenerational dynamics may be present but not immediately evident.
  • Analyze family history data to identify patterns of trauma, resilience, and relational dynamics across generations.
  • Apply genogram mapping to organize and visualize transgenerational patterns relevant to the client’s current symptoms.
  • Select appropriate TTTR-informed interventions based on clinical presentation and treatment phase.
  • Demonstrate the use of at least one stabilization strategy focused on installation of family strengths or protective figures.
  • Use structured questioning (positive, neutral, and challenging questions) to access transgenerational material during history taking.
  • Design a TTTR-informed target sequencing plan integrating both individual and transgenerational elements.
  • Compare individual trauma-focused EMDR conceptualization with TTTR-informed conceptualization in complex cases.
  • Critique the suitability and timing of transgenerational interventions within the EMDR treatment process.
